Flamenco skirts

I made two flamenco skirts in 2010 for my DDs using simplicity pattern 5914 and modified.

My daughters have been taking flamenco dance lessons for quite some time and they enjoy a lot.  Current teacher is Sabrina Avilés.  For their upcoming dance recital, I made new skirts using the same pattern with some changes: upper skirts fitted through mid thigh and no frills at the skirt hems.  The previous version has yards of frills which were pleated first and gathered.

What fun skirts to wear!  One day, I would like to sew the real flamenco skirt or dress.

  1. What fun skirts! I recently copied the construction on my one flamenco skirt (given to me by my aunt who was a dancer) so that I could duplicate the ruffles in a costume I made for the high school musical. It was a fun skirt to make!

  2. This brings back memories, May! I sewed many flamenco skirts and several dresses for my daughter during her years of studies...until she (thankfully) graduated to ordering custom-made costumes in Spain. All those circular flounces! Fun the first few times.

  3. May - it's been several years since I've visited (shame on me!) and it was wonderful to read through several of your posts! Your daughters are so grown and so beautiful. I remember them as little girls and boy has time flown! I'm following you now so that I can keep up with your awesome sewing and knitting!
